Hyaluronic acid as a supplement for joints

Hyaluronic acid as a supplement

Daily supplementation with high-molecular hyaluronic acid helps maintain the quality of the joint fluid in the body. This in turn helps to lubricate and cushion the joints, preventing joint inflammation. We put our joints under stress every day and small injuries occur even if we don't feel them. These small injuries can develop into joint inflammation and eventually osteoarthritis. Supplementing with hyaluronic acid is a very simple way to give your joints the best possible conditions for increased mobility and resistance to injury. This applies to horses, dogs and humans alike. If osteoarthritis has already occurred, supplementation with hyaluronic acid could contribute to a better everyday life with less pain and increased mobility in the damaged joint.

What is hyaluronic acid and why is it important?

Hyaluronic acid is a tough, viscous molecule found naturally in joints and joint fluid in horses, dogs and humans. It is an important component that gives the synovial fluid its lubricating properties and protects the bones in the joint from moving against each other and causing damage. We like to call hyaluronic acid the plaster of the joint. If the joint is injured, hyaluronic acid breaks down faster than it can be restored naturally. The joint fluid then becomes thin and the risk of joint inflammation is imminent. Eventually, osteoarthritis can develop and this is an irreversible condition. Osteoarthritis cannot be healed and causes a lot of pain and loss of mobility.

Joints are important organs in our bodies. Healthy joints keep us flexible and supple, whether we are horses, dogs or humans. However, if we have problems with our joints, we become stiff and find it difficult to move normally. The condition causes us to move less, which in turn can lead to serious secondary diseases in other parts of our bodies.

It is important that the hyaluronic acid supplement you take has a high molecular weight, preferably 1.4 million Daltons. High molecular weight hyaluronic acid helps the joint capsule cells to produce their own new hyaluronic acid. However, a product with too low a molecular weight can have a negative impact on this process. At Healthy Joints, we therefore naturally only use supplements containing high-molecular hyaluronic acid.
